Change to how your benefits are taxed

From

Effective
6 April 2027
Affected benefits
Company car

Dear colleague,

From 6 April 2027, Your employer will payroll your company car. This means the taxable value will be included when Income Tax is calculated through payroll rather than being dealt with mainly through the previous year-end P11D or tax-code process.

Why this is changing

Under HMRC’s current plans, the affected Benefits in Kind must be included through payroll so Income Tax can be collected during the tax year. The benefit remains non-cash and is not added to the amount paid into your bank account.

Your affected benefits

  • Company car: Your company car remains a non-cash benefit. The change relates to how its taxable value is reported and how Income Tax is collected.

What you may notice

You may see a taxable-benefit value shown separately on your payslip. It is not additional salary and is not added to your take-home pay. Because Income Tax is collected through payroll, your take-home pay may change.

What you need to do

You normally do not need to do anything. Check that the benefit description and dates are correct. If something looks wrong, contact your employer’s payroll or HR team so the record can be reviewed.

Kind regards,
Your employer

Your notice includes
